STORMKING SETS INDUSTRY STANDARDS WITH BRITISH BOARD OF AGRÉMENT
ACCREDITATION
The British Board of Agrément (BBA) has been providing authoritative and independent information on the performance of building materials, products, and systems for over 50 years. The certificates awarded by the BBA contain important data on durability, installation, and compliance with UK Building Regulations, providing the construction industry with the crucial information it needs for specifying only the highest quality products.
Stormking, a UK-based designer and manufacturer of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) building components for over 37 years, first attained its BBA accreditation in 2006. Since its inception, Stormking has been innovative in its approach to manufacturing GRP building components. Whilst many companies have sought to imitate these methods, Stormking works hard to ensure it remains at the forefront of GRP developments.
“The GRP market has grown exponentially since its inception, with lots of companies producing a variety of different products” explains Chris Pearce, Sales Director at Stormking. “As a company that prides itself on its innovative manufacturing processes and the high quality of its products, we had to differentiate ourselves from these other businesses. We also wanted to ensure the GRP sector maintained an excellent reputation and a way of doing both was to attain the BBA accreditation.”
When reviewing a product, the British Board of Agrément assesses several key factors, from structural performance, weather tightness, and thermal properties to durability, fire resistance and loading. If a product is deemed suitable, the resulting certification covers aspects such as design, installation guidance, independently verified technical specifications, and compliance. A company is audited once a year to ensure it is maintaining the standards expected and required from the British Board of Agrément.
Chris continues: “Our BBA accreditation is providing our customers with the assurance that they are purchasing a quality component. As an industry recognised standard, we also hope it will continue to build the reputation of GRP products within the construction industry, as well as raising their profile with new customers.”
GRP building products are helping to revolutionise the way new homes are built. They are manufactured off-site before being delivered to, and installed, onsite and can be ‘dry-fit’ into place, which requires no specialist knowledge, training, or tools. This ease of installation is saving construction companies both time and money – especially when compared to using traditional building materials and methods – in addition to being safer.
“We will continue to maintain the standards required to retain our BBA accreditation, not only to uphold our own values of innovation and quality but also those of the industry as a whole” concludes Chris.
